Wedding Card Box

Anyone that knows me will tell you the most important thing in my life is my family and the thing I love doing most is getting creative. So when my auntie asked me to decorate her wedding card box I was honoured!

I started by varnishing the box to give it a rustic colour.

Once I had decided what messages and images to put on the box I printed them out at the correct size, to enable me to use them as a template.

I coloured the back of each word and image with a pencil and then place the template in the correct position – front side up! (holding in place with masking tape of course).

Using a sharp pencil I went over the lettering and images carefully, transferring the pencil backing into the box. Using this method allows you to make any changes as the pencil is easy to rub out!

Once I was happy with the overall design I went over it in pen. I used a black Uni Pin Fineline Pen as it dried quickly and gives a crisp finish.

The next element was the bunting, which I made from scratch using hessian.

This bunting it really simple and easy to make.

Fold the fabric in half and cut out triangles along the folded edge. (The triangles should be the size of your required bunting).

Open the triangles to form a diamond shape, this allows you to apply any lettering onto the bunting easily without any bulkiness. I used iron on letters as they always give a professional finish and are very easy to apply.

Once you are happy with the lettering its time to fold the diamonds back in half and sew the open edges of each triangle together. Make sure to leave a gap at the top.

Leaving a gap at the top allows you to thread string or ribbon through the bunting triangles to form your bunting row.

To attached the bunting to the box I used the trusty adhesive Command hooks. The are so reliable and stick well to just about anything!

Finally the box was complete and ready for the big day!

It even made it onto the venues Facebook page –
